Podcasts for Families of Prisoners
Podcasts can be a great way to hear from others who have experienced similar challenges. They offer insights, advice, and emotional support from experts and those with lived experience. Here are some recommended podcasts:
- The Secret Life of Prisons – a podcast that explores real stories from people with experience of the criminal justice system, including families and professionals who support them.
- Unlocked Perspectives – the true stories of real people who have been impacted by the prison system in England and Wales. From former prisoner to officer, this podcast investigates and unlocks the stories, emotions and perspectives that shape and define the lives of those touched by our prison system.
- Prison Bag – the story of a family supporting their loved one through a 9 year sentence.
- Life after Prison: The Sit Down – a podcast featuring conversations with a variety of people who have been though the prison system themselves sharing advice, inspiration, information and support to people who have experienced the criminal justice system.
You can find these and more on platforms such as Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and other podcast services.
Online Resources
There are several national organisations which offer advice and support to individuals and families affected by the criminal justice system:

Includes the ‘Prison Life’ video series which explores different aspects of prison life and the support your loved one can access during their time in custody.
