Prison-based Family Support Work

POPS Family Support Workers based at HMP Manchester work specifically with families of prisoners affected by drug and alcohol misuse issues. Support is provided to help families build strong relationships with their imprisoned family member and to promote positive resettlement into the community. Throughout their contact with the family POPS Family Support Workers provide prisoners’ families with practical advice and emotional support. Volunteers assist POPS Family Support Workers in promoting positive contact between prisoners and their families and support the involvement of prisoners’ families in contributing towards the progress of their relative’s treatment. Tea Bar Workers

POPS’ tea bars are located at a number of prisons across the North-West of England. Tea bars enable visitors to the prison to purchase hot and cold drinks as well as a range of snacks prior to and during their visit. Tea bar volunteers working within the visitor centre help ensure the smooth running of the centre alongside a team of other volunteers, staff and offenders on work placement.
