Last week (23-28th February) POPS took part in Student Volunteering Week! A range of academic institutions and organisations are involved to celebrate the commitment of students and the support they offer through volunteering. At POPS we took this as an opportunity to celebrate with all of our volunteers (not just students) and say thank you for all of their commitment, dedication and hard work!
Volunteers are an integral part of POPS and help shape our services, providing valuable support to the families we work with.
“I am having a great time volunteering with POPS…. I am able to use my creative skills and asked for ideas…I am happy, made to feel valued and appreciated at HMP Buckley Hall, and also at POPS as a whole.”

Based across a range of visitor centre and community-based projects POPS’ volunteers assist families and loved ones by providing practical and emotional support in a range of environments.
In recent weeks POPS has also been lucky enough to welcome three social work placements who are spending time across a number of POPS’ projects. We have already received great feedback from all those involved and hope the influence of POPS will be a positive one in their journey to becoming qualified social workers.
We are always on the lookout for new volunteers to join our team. Download an application form here or follow our volunteer twitter account for regular updates.
“This role has enabled to reap the benefits of a personal sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. Volunteering for POPS has given me an opportunity to learn more about myself and my capabilities, which has not only built my confidence but has also given me an insight into the work within this particular sector”
