POPS are delighted to announce that our CEO, Diane Curry OBE, has been appointed to the Police and Crime Panel for Greater Manchester as an independent member.
‘Being an independent member of the police and crime scrutiny panel allows for my experience of the wider criminal justice system and community safety to be ‘brought to the table’. It also demonstrates a desire by the Police and Crime Commissioner to be open and transparent in his plans for ensuring Greater Manchester develops the PCC role in partnership with the requirements of the community.’
The Greater Manchester Panel will work with the Police and Crime Commissioner to shape the strategic thinking and direction on police and crime issues. The Panel will also monitor and review the performance of the elected Police and Crime Commissioner and help to shape their thinking on priorities for the area.
‘To date, the panel has reviewed the Police and Crime Plan, the Police Precept, the nomination for Police Constable and an appropriate and robust complaints process.’
As well as the nine Council leaders and the Salford City Mayor, the panel includes two independent members who have skills, knowledge and experience of wider criminal justice and community safety issues. Diane has been appointed alongside Maqsood Ahmad OBE, Director of Inclusion at NHS East Midlands. Both independent panel members live in Greater Manchester and bring a wealth of experience working in the voluntary sector.
‘Going forward I am keen, alongside Maqsood Ahmad, to ensure that a community engagement and equality agenda are high on the panel’s list of priorities.’
