POPS’ social enterprise, 2nd Chance, was recently approached to cater for a very special event hosted by Greater Manchester Probation Trust.
In attendence was HRH Princess Anne in her role as patron of The Butler Trust. The lunchtime buffet was held to celebrate the Butler Trust Award presented to members of the Intensive Alternative to Custody (IAC) team in 2011. Butler Trust Awards are awarded to individuals and teams working in prisons, probation or youth justice settings across the UK and recognise outstanding dedication, skill and creativity. The royal visit was a follow-up to the formal presentation which took place at Buckingham Palace last year, enabling the Princess Royal to visit the staff in their work place and learn more about the work undertaken by the team.
‘Just wanted to thank you for the excellent service, yet again. You provided us with a large lunch for dignitaries, colleagues and Princess Anne, and we were impressed by the presentation and value for money’.
2nd Chance was established to provide work placements for offenders on license in the community as an aid to resettlement. Placements at 2nd Chance enable offenders to gain essential work experience and qualifications within the catering industry, improving their employment prospects and encouraging desistance. As well as corporate buffets 2nd Chance has catering contracts with four prisons across the North-West, providing sandwiches for social and domestic visitors. 2nd Chance also has a coffee house and bistro in Prestwich, North Manchester, enabling offenders to experience a range of catering environments.
